Understanding Stakes

Learn how skill-based competition works on ChessStake. Understand the peer-to-peer escrow system, competition tiers, and transparent fund distribution.

Platform Architecture

Understanding how ChessStake works is essential. Here are the fundamental principles of our platform.

Peer-to-Peer

Players compete directly against each other. ChessStake does not participate in matches or influence outcomes in any way.

Skill Determines Outcome

Chess is a game of perfect information. Better players consistently outperform weaker opponents over time.

Fully Transparent

All transactions occur on Polygon blockchain. Anyone can verify fund flows and smart contract operations.

Non-Custodial

We never hold your funds. The smart contract escrow releases funds automatically based on game results.

Competition Tiers

Choose a tier that matches your comfort level. All tiers use the same smart contract and rules.

How It Works

The entire process is automated through smart contracts. No manual intervention, no delays.

Fund Distribution

When a match concludes, the smart contract automatically distributes funds. This happens instantly and transparently on-chain.

Draws

In the event of a draw (stalemate, agreement, repetition, etc.), both players receive their original deposit back minus a small processing fee.

Smart Contract Escrow

Funds are held by an immutable smart contract on Polygon, not by ChessStake. This ensures trustless, verifiable fund management.

Transaction Fees: You'll need a small amount of MATIC (typically less than $0.01) for gas fees on Polygon. This is separate from your USDC and covers blockchain transaction costs.
Important: Understand Before You Play

ChessStake is a platform for skill-based chess competition. Only participate if you understand chess and are confident in your abilities.

Your results depend entirely on your skill relative to your opponents. There is no luck, randomness, or house advantage. Better players will consistently outperform weaker players.

Never compete with more than you can afford. Use the practice mode (vs AI) to assess your skill level before entering competitive matches.

Zero Tolerance for Cheating

ChessStake maintains strict anti-cheat monitoring across all competitive matches. We employ advanced detection systems to ensure fair play for all participants.

  • Suspicious accounts permanently banned
  • IP addresses blocked when abuse detected
  • Engine-assisted play strictly prohibited
  • All matches analyzed for irregular patterns

Frequently Asked Questions

Who holds my funds during a match?
The smart contract holds funds during matches. ChessStake never has custody of your USDC. The contract automatically releases funds to the winner when the match concludes.
What happens if I disconnect during a game?
Your clock continues running. If your time expires, you lose the match. Ensure stable internet before competing. This is standard in timed chess competition.
Can ChessStake cancel a match or reverse results?
Once funds are distributed by the smart contract, the result is final and immutable. We cannot reverse blockchain transactions. Matches may only be annulled before completion in cases of detected cheating or technical failures.
Is ChessStake legal in my country?
ChessStake facilitates skill-based competition, which is distinct from gambling in most jurisdictions. However, laws vary by location. You are responsible for understanding and complying with your local regulations.
Why is there a 20% protocol fee?
The protocol fee funds platform development, server costs, anti-cheat systems, and customer support. This fee is transparent and built into the smart contract. There are no hidden fees.
