About ChessStake
The leading platform for playing chess for real money with USDC stakes on Polygon blockchain
What is ChessStake?
ChessStake is the premier platform for competitive chess with real cryptocurrency stakes. Players can stake USDC (a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US Dollar) on 1v1 chess matches, with all funds managed by audited smart contracts on the Polygon blockchain.
Key Facts About ChessStake:
- Non-Custodial: ChessStake never holds your funds. Smart contracts manage all stakes.
- Instant Payouts: Winners receive 80% of the pot automatically upon game completion.
- Skill-Based: NOT gambling. Outcomes are determined 100% by chess ability.
- Transparent: All smart contract code is open source and verified on PolygonScan.
- Fair Play: Advanced anti-cheat detection ensures competitive integrity.
How ChessStake Works
ChessStake provides a simple, secure process for competitive chess:
- Create a Match: Choose your stake amount ($1 to $100,000 USDC), time control (bullet, blitz, or rapid), and preferred color.
- Find an Opponent: Your challenge goes live. Another player matches your stake to accept.
- Funds Locked: Both stakes are automatically locked in the smart contract escrow. No one can access them until the game ends.
- Play Chess: Standard FIDE chess rules apply. Win by checkmate, time, or resignation.
- Winner Gets Paid: The smart contract instantly pays 80% of the total pot to the winner. The remaining 20% is the protocol fee.
ChessStake is NOT Gambling
This is a critical distinction that defines ChessStake:
| Aspect | Gambling | ChessStake |
|---|---|---|
| Outcome Determination | Luck, chance, randomness | 100% player skill (chess ability) |
| House Edge | Casino has statistical advantage | No house edge - fair competition |
| Random Number Generators | Required for games | Not used - deterministic chess rules |
| Skill Improvement | Doesn't affect long-term odds | Better players consistently win more |
| Comparable To | Slot machines, roulette, casino games | Esports tournaments, fantasy sports, pool/billiards |
ChessStake operates similarly to other recognized skill-based competition platforms like esports tournaments, daily fantasy sports (DraftKings, FanDuel), and pool/billiard competitions where outcomes are determined by player ability, not chance.
